Core Exercises

Your core is the central part of your body, and the stronger it is the stronger the rest of your body will be over time. It also helps you maintain your balance and increase your sex appeal when you finally get those six pack abs.

When you begin these core exercises, keep in mind getting great abs and strengthening your core takes time. You should start with exercises and the number of sets and repetitions that are comfortable for you. As you improve you can add more exercises and increase the number of reps you do. Select those that work for you and vary your routine as you go along.

The first core and ab exercise is called the barbell oblique rollout. The Barbell Oblique Rollout strengthens the abdominals, obliques and shoulders. By turning the bar as you roll out you activate the obliques. Keep your back from sagging by contracting your abs. Start with a few reps at a time until you have the strength to complete a full set of 10 reps. This exercise will work your abs and lower stomach and will definitely strengthen your core.

Crunches are another great exercise you can do to get great abs. Lie down on your back with your knees bent and your arms clasped behind your head. Lift your head and the top part of your torso. Point your elbows toward your knees when you do this. Lower your head and top part of your torso back down to the floor. Repeat ten to 30 times in a set. You can also perform this exercise using an exercise ball which adds more resistance and makes it work your muscles even more.

There is another great core exercise that can be performed standing up. Stand with your arms down to your sides. Pull your middle in and hold for ten seconds or so. The actual length of time you do this is up to you, but you can lengthen it as your core grows stronger. After holding in for several seconds, relax your muscles. Wait a few seconds and begin the process all over again. Complete this exercise ten to 20 times to make a set.

As with all other exercises, you may want to begin with one to two sets. These are no exception. As you go along, you can increase the number of sets and reps as noted above, but it won't take long to notice your core and abs growing stronger. As your core grows stronger your balance will improve and you will find it easier to execute other types of exercises. You will also have more energy and feel better all around as you move through all your daily activities. You can also add other core and ab exercises as you go along and will soon find yourself stronger than ever before.
