Spring Challenge - Train for the Pull Up Test
Author: Certified HyperStrike Trainers
The pull up part of the Spring Fever Fitness Challenge will probably be the hardest part for many people. It doesn’t have to be. With a little training you can do very well on the pull up test.
You should do some pull ups everyday to prepare for the test. If you have a pull up bar at home make it a rule that you must do a certain number of pull ups every time you walk by it. If not, make sure you do pull ups at the gym every workout.
You can add weight to get stronger. For many people this simply means using less assistance. If you can do 8 to 10 pull ups you might wear a back pack or weighted vest. You can also hold a dumbbell between your feet. Getting stronger will make pull ups easier.
You will also want some days with a very high volume of pull ups. You will probably have to do these assisted (pull up machine) or jumping (jumping and pulling up on a low bar). The goal for these days is to build endurance specific to the task.
For conditioning work, you can use pull ups as part of a circuit. I also like doing ladders of pull ups (1, then 2, then 3…) or performing a set number of pull ups as fast as possible. There are many different possibilities, be creative.
Getting stronger and improving your endurance will help you do well on the Spring Fever Fitness Challenge.
Good Luck!!
