For Best Results – Be Consistent and Increase
Your Intensity Safely
By Yvonne Rayburn, CPT
We have all seen the instructions on medication, sunscreen, make-up, etc…for best results apply this way or take with food or whatever the case may be. What if we think about exercise in the same way? There is a formula “for best results” that applies to your workout program as well.
First and foremost, be consistent. Being consistent is going to yield the best results…period. This applies to eating healthy, doing a cardio routine and hitting the weights in the gym. Consistency in all three components, GUARANTEE results! Making a commitment to a healthy and fit lifestyle isn’t just for a 12-week program. It is for a lifetime. The people who make the biggest, most noticeable gains whatever their goals, are the people who consistently make it happen. Even when it isn’t easy to get out of bed at 5am and get to the gym or hit the treadmill or track. Even when the pizza calling your name is much more appealing than the salmon and vegetables.
Be patient. This goes hand in hand with being consistent. If you have weight to lose, it didn’t appear overnight or even in a matter of a couple of months so why would you think it will come off more quickly? You must be patient while working toward your goals. Slow and steady wins the race as the old saying goes. Being consistent and patient will eventually pay off.
Increase your intensity or weight gradually. This is one of the biggest mistakes that I see people make. Someone starts working out and feeling good so they double their weekly mileage or increase the weight they were lifting by more than they should. The next thing that happens is they end up with an overuse injury or something pulled that keeps them out of the gym altogether and then they are back at square one, starting with trying to just get in the habit again once they are injury free. Don’t let this happen to you. Be consistent, patient and train smart. For help with how to put a program together that is specific to your goals and needs, check out HyperStrike’s custom workout plan.
The goal to making health and fitness a lifestyle, not just a short term thing, is making time for your workouts and being consistent even when it isn’t convenient, being patient with yourself and remembering that Rome wasn’t built in a day and your new physique won’t be either, and finally train smart. Don’t increase weight or intensity too quickly. This ties right back to the patience factor. (Amazing how all of these things work together, isn’t it?)
For best results, use a reliable, easy to follow program or service like HyperStrike.com.
