Is Bodybuilding Boring? Change it up to Avoid Burnout

Most people who work out or participate in body building and fitness routines have one thing in common: they are trying to get into better shape. Whether it is a body building workout for competition or just a weekly workout to drop a couple of pounds, a lot of people run into trouble with their workouts becoming routine. Although routine workouts are common, they can eventually lead to dissatisfying results. Any professional bodybuilder can tell you about a time when they “peaked” or hit a wall.

Fortunately, there are measures which can be taken to avoid this unfortunate hurdle. By changing up one’s workout routine, it is possible to keep motivated with a workout program. Additionally, changing a workout routine will help prevent muscles from becoming used to a workout. This prevents the dreaded “peaking” experience.

For those who are used to simply lifting weights for anaerobic exercise and running on a treadmill for their aerobic workout, there are a lot of options available to vary a boring workout. Following a customized workout is great, but rotating several custom workouts is better. Below are just a few examples of some alternate workouts which can provide motivation and help avoid hitting the wall.

Fight team workouts are workout routines which are based on the training styles of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) fighters. MMA fighters are widely recognized as being some of the most-fit and in-shape athletes in the world. The fight team workout incorporates many fast, explosive movements designed to mimic the lightning fast kicks and punches executed by an MMA fighter. The fight team workout is performed in circuit fashion, with the participant only resting after all of the exercises are performed.

A boxing workout is a great workout for those who are looking to change things up but are trying to find something a little more familiar than the styles of MMA fighters. After all, most people are more familiar with boxing movements than the more complex moves involved with MMA training. Boxing workouts help fighters achieve more endurance, stamina and speed in the ring. Even non-fighters can benefit from the simple yet effective boxing workout to improve speed and overall fitness.

The transformer is a series of three workouts performed in circuit fashion. The participant rests after a complete circuit and performs a total of four circuits. The transformer workout consists of jumping rope, hang cleans and dumbbell swings. This workout is ideal for those seeking whole-body transformations.

Most people know that they should stretch before working out. However, few people understand the benefits of a total flexibility workout. Body mobility and flexibility decrease with age. There are numerous health and performance benefits to devoting time to a flexibility workout. Flexibility decreases the likelihood of muscle injuries and results in improvements in speed and agility.

By incorporating some of these exercises into one’s weekly exercise routine, participants will find themselves able to become motivated and achieve a more fulfilling workout routine.
