Mixing Up Your Fitness Regime

Picture this scenario. You’ve been working out for two years. You finally get to go to your high school reunion. You’re really excited. After all, your fitness regime was flawless, perfect…maybe a wee bit focused. And so you walk in and everyone is staring at you. Goodbye scrawny, hello muscles! However, there are also a lot of snickers. Then it hits you. You’ve worked so hard on your arms and stomach that you have chicken legs! So you manage to survive the reunion only to get back home, feeling slightly unnerved.

You see, this is only a fake scenario, but at the same time, it does have a bit of a moral. When working out, don’t worry about just your fitness goal. After all, chances are you will reach it. You need to take care of your body as a whole and make sure that you’re exercising as much of it as you possibly can.

Keep in mind also that you don’t have to be skinny to reach your fitness goal. Some people are built a little bit bigger. This doesn’t mean that they aren’t physically fit because they’re a bit bigger.

Cardio: Cardio exercises specifically your heart and works on your endurance. There are two types of cardio: anaerobic and aerobic. Both of these types have their perks. When using anaerobic cardio, you’re constantly going. Swimming or jogging a long distance would be an example of aerobic activity. It works with oxygen and it’s a slow buildup.  Anaerobic is where the need for oxygen doesn’t slowly build up. You’ll most likely be out of breath quickly. This is good for those lacking in endurance. They still get their exercise but don’t wear out too soon. However, it also needs to be mixed up with aerobic cardio so that they are able to build up endurance.

Muscle-building: One thing to remember with this is that the first thing you want to do is try and use up some of the fat in your cells. You can do this by burning calories using cardio. Make sure to alternate between cardio and muscle building and also to make sure that you are working each muscle group at a time. You don’t want to build up your muscle tone unevenly.

With these in mind, also make sure that when trying to reach your fitness goal, it isn’t all about trying to lose weight. It’s about trying to reach a higher level of fitness which will allow you to live your life to the fullest.
