Have you ever taken a trip and dreaded missing your workout? If you are like most fitness enthusiasts, you work out every day no matter what. That is why it is good to have a back up plan for when you travel.

When traveling, chances are you will be unable to carry exercise gear with you. Sure you can take your workout clothes along, but that will probably be about it. You may get lucky and stay somewhere near a gym or fitness equipment, but for the most part, you may find yourself relegated to exercising in your own hotel room. If this is the case, the following exercises will get you through any work out in a wide variety of travel situations even when you are in a tight spot.

Sit ups can be done anywhere. Let’s face it, as long as you have enough room to lie down, you have enough room to then sit up again. Simply lie flat on your back with your knees bent and feet planted firmly on the floor. Clasp your hands behind your head. Bring your elbows forward sitting as you do. Be careful not to lift your lower back off the floor ahead of your shoulders. Keep your feet flat on the floor and don’t let your hands wander from behind your head. Once you are in a sitting position, return to the previous position on your back. Repeat this exercise several times.

Push ups are also easy to do while on the road. Lie flat on your stomach, placing your hands on the floor shoulder width apart. Push up with your arms so your entire torso is lifted off the ground. Keep your toes touching the floor. Lower your body back to the floor making sure not to completely touch. Instead, touch only your chin to the floor. Repeat this process several times before finally resting on the floor once more.

If you are looking for some aerobic exercise, jogging in place is a good idea. There may even be stairs where you are and if this is the case, you should definitely take advantage of them by walking or running up and down them several times. This will keep your heart rate up while providing strength training as well.

While the exercises listed above are quite simple to do, they will provide you a way to maintain your overall fitness program while on the road. You’ll be thanking yourself for deciding to remain active.
