If joining a gym is not a possibility for you, you can still obtain a great workout from home. There are many exercises you can do from any room in your house that will help strengthen all parts of your body while meeting all the necessary fitness requirements.

Aerobic exercises are an important part of the overall fitness plan and can include a wide range of exercises. You may choose an aerobic routine outlined for you by a workout video or DVD. Here, the exercises are specified and literally shown to you with accompanying workout music.

You can also choose to purchase an exercise bike or treadmill for the aerobic part of your workout. While these items will be a bit more expensive, they are worthwhile investments that, over time will pay for themselves in a very big way.

You can also receive an aerobic workout by walking or jogging up and down stairs if they are present in or around your home. Several repetitions of this will keep your heart rate up and those muscles working.

There are also a variety of anaerobic exercises you can do right from your own home. Sit ups and push ups are among them as are leg lifts, crunches and arm curls. You can even use free weights for the last.

Speaking of free weights, there are several routines you can do with them that will go a long way toward the strength training aspect of your fitness workout. Free weights come in many shapes and sizes. You can purchase several pairs of hand weights in different weight amounts. As you move up in your workout you will want to increase the amount of weight you use to exercise.

Exercise balls are also quite popular. They can be used for sit ups, crunches and a wide variety of other exercises.

Exercise bands are also used for a wide variety of strength training exercises. They will help keep your muscles toned and strong. They are inexpensive and store easily just as free weights and exercise balls do.

Whether you choose to use tools for exercises or just stick to the traditional floor fitness favorites, you will be able to define your muscles in a way that will keep you healthy and strong. You may even be surprised at the difference it truly makes.
