Bodybuilding as a lifestyle is still a bit of the unknown to many outside of it's hallowed halls, but perhaps that stems from a lack of knowledge on the subject. One thing that perplexes many is just who is the founder of bodybuilding. Ask around. You are bound to find various answers on the subject. Names like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno are bound to lead the pack since they are among some of the most widely featured, but there is one person that is credited as the founder of bodybuilding as we know it today. Their name...Eugen Sandow.

Eugen Sandow put his physical form on display in a way people had not previously been privy too. Through his performances, the sport of bodybuilding began to grow in vigor, first in carnival appearances and then through the first bodybuilding competition in 1901 simply called the "Great Competition". The success of this first organized event propelled bodybuilders into the public eye where the sport would continue to draw the attention of growing numbers both in participants and audiences. During this same time, Sandow took full advantage of his growing fame and opted to spread the message of good overall fitness and nutrition though the creation of some of the first exercise equipment for the general public, most of which are still in use today and will be for years to come.

Hard to believe that bodybuilding as we know it today stems from the dreams and ambitions of one man, isn't it? He had enough desire and drive to share not only his physique with the world but create a plane by which many could share in the attention of the public eye and an arena through which other bodybuilding enthusiasts could live out their life long dreams too. It just goes to show you the change one person can affect in the world.

What will your change be? What will the legacy you leave behind say about you? If you long to follow in the footsteps of those bodybuilding greats that went before you, stock up on commitment and put your drive to the test. Develop a solid plan of attack and reach for your bodybuilding dreams through the lifestyle choices you make each and every day. Who knows….you could be the next bodybuilding champion, but you'll never know if you don't take that first step.
