The absolute hardest part of achieving your fitness goals
is staying motivated enough to keep going to the gym. Most people start off
their first week or two working out hard every day. Eventually they run in to an
excuse to stay home, and from there they start to find more reasons not to go.
Before you know it they are paying for a gym membership they don’t use, and
they’re depressed about the results they aren’t getting. If you can keep the
motivation up to go to the gym on all of your workout days you will eventually
see some results as long as you’re doing what you’re supposed to at the gym.
If you find it hard to drag yourself to the gym on a
regular basis you will probably benefit from a training partner. A training
partner will help to keep your motivated on days when you just don’t feel like
going. You feel obligated to show up for them and thus you will log many more
gym days than you would have.
When looking for a training partner you should try to find
someone around your fitness level and fitness goals. It’s fine if they aren’t right in line with
you, but you might become discouraged if they are lifting twice the weight you
are. You should also try to find a partner with goals similar to your own.
Obviously it isn’t going to work if they just want to burn fat and you are
trying to put on some serious muscle.
As you search for a training partner start out with your
network of friends and family. If you can’t find anyone with similar fitness
aspirations you might have to put up an ad on craigslist or look around for
sites that get fitness partners together. After you have found someone go on a
test run workout and if you think it will work out set up a schedule that you
both can follow. You should also make sure you’re on the same page as far as the
workouts that you are going to do are concerned.
An established workout buddy will make it harder to dodge
your gym duties and you will ultimately get better results.
