Off-Season Muscle Building
So you want to know how to train in the off-season? There are several tricks you can use to continue gaining muscle mass while remaining healthy. The
off-season time is used to build muscle mass and repair any weaknesses that may exist. If you are a competitor this is where you will gain enough
muscle to attain a higher level of development you can then use at a bodybuilding show. If you do not compete, your off-season will be the designated
time you set aside for gaining muscle mass you will later display at the beach or when taking part in fun sports.
One thing you want to definitely watch during the off-season time is gaining too much body weight. This can be detrimental to your actual muscle mass
because it can mean the wrong kind of weight. Just because you weigh more doesn't mean it's always muscle you have gained. You want to make sure muscle
is, in fact what is making your weight increase. Pounds that are gained in the form of fat will only have to be shed later on in order for any
muscularity to show.
Go for quality over quantity. This is a definite rule of thumb you should always follow when strength training. It isn't how much you work out but
rather the results you receive. A quality workout will net you much bulkier results than would one with lots of sets and reps where less attention is
paid to increasing the amount of weight you are lifting.
Your off-season workout should concentrate on building muscle mass. Short workouts with fewer reps in each set and more weight will make this happen.
The amount of weight you are lifting will be what pushes your muscles to the max, not the number of reps you do. Your muscles need to be pushed in
order for the tissues to break down. This breakdown will subsequently require recovery time during which your muscles will repair and rebuild
themselves. This is when they actually grow.
Your muscles will grow over time. That is why the off-season workouts are so important. You shouldn't expect it to happen overnight. Instead, you'll
need to be patient and keep working at it. Adhere to a strict workout plan along with a well-balanced diet. This type of commitment is what is
necessary for continual growth. This is also what will continue to spur you on once the off-season time has ended and it's time to show off the fruits
of your efforts.
